FROM LEXINGTON, WHERE THE FIRE CHIEF JUST REVEALED NEW DETAILS REGARDING THE DEATH OF BELOVED CAPTAIN RONNIE METCALFE. THE 19 YEAR VETERAN OF THE LEXINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT DIED EXACTLY ONE MONTH AGO DUE TO INJURIES SUSTAINED WHILE BATTLING A FIRE ON FIFTH STREET. THE FIRE CHIEF SAYS METCALFE AND ANOTHER FIREFIGHTER WERE WORKING AS A PAIR TO COMBAT THAT TENSE FIRE AT A VACANT HOME. THERE WAS NEAR ZRO VISIBILITY INSIDE OF THE HOUSE, HE SAYS. MOMENTS AFTER METCALFE TOLD HIS PARTNER HE WAS MOVING TO GET MORE OF THE FIRE HOSE. THE EVACUATION ORDER WAS ISSUED. WE’RE TOLD IT BECAME IMMEDIATELY CLEAR METCALFE DID NOT EVACUATE, WITH THREE OF HIS COLLEAGUES, AND CITY OFFICIALS ALSO JUST REVEALED THE TWO SUSPECTS CONNECTED TO THE FIRE ACTUALLY APPROACHED OFFICERS AT THE SCENE OF THE FIRE WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING. WE’RE TOLD INVESTIGATORS WERE ABLE TO OBTAIN SURVEILLANCE SHOWING THE SUSPECTS IN AND AROUND THE HOUSE BEFORE THE FIRE. AND AS THE FLAMES STARTED TO SPREAD, POLICE, THOUGH, DID NOT FIND EVIDENCE THAT POINTED TO THE TWO USING DRUGS. Fire officials are releasing new details about the circ*mstances surrounding a house fire that led to the death of a beloved fire captain. Lexington Fire Department Captain Ronnie Metcalf died one month ago due to injuries he sustained while battling a fire on Fifth Street. The Lexington Fire Chief said Metcalf and another firefighter were working as a pair to combat an intense fire at a vacant home where there was near-zero visibility inside the house. They said two other firefighters were searching for possible victims. City officials also revealed two suspects connected to the fire actually approached the officers at the scene of the fire while it was still happening. Investigators said they were able to obtain surveillance showing the suspects in and around the house before the fire and as the flames started to spread but haven’t released the video. However, police did not find evidence that pointed to the two using drugs while in the Fifth Street house on the night of the fire. Police later arrested Brandon Alan Hoskins, 31, of Lexington and Stacie Blair Stegall, 37, of Lexington on warrants for misdemeanor breaking and entering in the home that burned.
