What is the first day of classes at KU? ›

The school's Board of Regents held its first meeting in March 1865, which is the event that KU dates its founding from. Work on the first college building began later that year. The school opened for classes on September 12, 1866, and the first class graduated in 1873.

The first day of class is usually a syllabus review day. You will probably receive a syllabus with important deadlines, assignments, professor office hours and textbook requirements. Keep your syllabus in a safe place as you will likely refer to this more than once.

Being an early bird gives you a bit of time to relax and get in the right mindset to learn. It's a good idea to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for your college classes.
