A Blue Alert was issued in response to the incident, however, it was canceled around 7:52 p.m. “We ask for prayers for the family of the fallen officer and our Greensboro PD family,” Thompson said. He also thanked several agencies for assisting throughout the day in the search for the suspects. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper issued the following statement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter."I spoke with Greensboro Police Chief Thompson earlier this evening offering all available state resources to catch those who killed a Greensboro police officer. Our prayers are with the Greensboro police and family and loved ones. Every effort must be made to apprehend those responsible and bring justice in this tragic situation." Thompson said another off-duty officer and a Guilford County paramedic on scene tried to save the officer. However, the officer was transported to a hospital and later died. “He was a loving husband, father, son and brother with 22 years of service to the department and this community," Thompson said. WXII 12 has reached out to police to see if there was an update on the suspects but have not heard back.Greensboro police also have not released the name of the officer who was killed at this time. Thompson also thanked Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan for her support. She later spoke at the news conference Saturday night. "This is difficult. This is one of the hardest things I've faced as mayor. Words are inadequate right now. There's really, nothing I can say that's going to give the family or officers any comfort. An officer with the Greensboro Police Department was killed following a shooting, according to police.

Greensboro police said an off-duty officer was killed after witnessing a crime occurring at the Sheetz on Sandy Ridge Road. They said the officer was shot around 4 p.m. after approaching the suspects.
