Hello there, Sirun. I'm here to provide information about your forms 6765 and 941 in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The credits claimed on Form 6765 cannot be offset by the taxes reported on Form 941 due to the differences and purpose of these two forms.

You might want to contact the IRS to inquire about eligibility for the credit. If the IRS approves it, please contact our Payroll Support team for any necessary payroll corrections.

  1. Sign in to yourQuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go toHelp (?).
  3. SelectContact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then selectLet's Talk.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chatwith a support expert.
    • Get a callbackfrom the next available expert.

Kindly note our operating hours on this article so you can contact us promptly: Contact Payroll Support.

Additionally, here are some resources to help you manage your taxes and stay compliant with all tax regulations:

  • Pay and file payroll taxes and forms electronically in QuickBooks Online Payroll
  • Access state agency websites for payroll
  • View your previously filed tax forms and payments

I'm here to help with any further questions you have about managing your taxes in QBO Payroll. Feel free to add them below so I can get back to you. Stay safe.

I have filed Form 6765 with my company's 2023 tax returns. According to IRS guidance, I need to submit Form 8974 along with my quarterly Form 941 to use the R&D credit to offset payroll taxes. Could QuickBooks team help me submit Form 8974 along with Form 941? Or do I need to suspend the automatic filing in QuickBooks and manually file the forms myself?

Seeking guidance from the IRS was a wise move to file the necessary forms accurately, Sirun. I'll guide you on how you can submit Form 8974 along with Form 941.

QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP) is unable to file Form 8974 for you. With this, I'd recommend suspending the automatic filing feature temporarily to submit it manually together with your 941.

Start by changing your taxes and forms preference. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon or Settings ⚙, then select Payroll settings.
  2. From the Taxes and forms section, click Edit (Pencil icon).
  3. Select I’ll pay and file the right agencies through their website or by mail to handle your taxes and filings yourself.
  4. Click Save, then Done.

After that, complete your tax setup (Pay and file your taxes and filings yourself section) to get a copy of your Form 941. Then, access the IRS website to file the forms manually.

Furthermore, you can create a summary report if you need to view your employees' totals and other payroll-related data. To guide you through the process, check out this article:Create a payroll summary report in QuickBooks.
